symptoms, early symptoms and signs of mercury dermatitis
Mercury dermatitis symptoms
Typical symptoms: Thermometers, barometers, dry cell (solder) production, pyrometallurgy workers can be exposed to mercury and cause dermatitis. In addition, organic mercury poisoning can also be accompanied by poisonous eruption.
Related symptoms: salivary papules
Mercury dermatitis can be seen in medical personnel and patients exposed to mercury agents (mercury bromide, mercuric chloride, thiomersal, mercury nitrophenol, 5% mercuric ammoxide, amalgam, etc.). Phenyl mercury salts can be used in pesticides as herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. Moreover, phenyl mercury salt can also be used in industrial products such as glue, rubber compound, paste, bentonite glue and mildew inhibitor. Irritant dermatitis caused by mercury nitrate can be seen in felt hat workers, etchers and metal handicraft makers. Thermometers, barometers, dry cell (solder) manufacturing, pyrometallurgy workers can be exposed to mercury and cause dermatitis. In addition, organic mercury poisoning can also be accompanied by poisonous eruption.
Contact dermatitis mostly occurs in exposed parts and vulva, with flushing and swelling of skin, and most scattered or dense red millet-sized papules, mound herpes, blisters or bullae. The blister wall is thick, and the blister fluid is clear and pale yellow, which can contain mercury. Conscious burning itch, after proper treatment after stopping contact, the blister dries up, can desquamate in large areas, and can reoccur when contacting again.
Toxic eruption is often accompanied by high fever, measles-like erythema appears all over the body, and exfoliative dermatitis can be caused in severe cases. Dandruff and urine can contain mercury, severe poisoning can see salivation, gingival amalgam, and metal smell in the mouth.
Diagnosis is mainly based on the history of mercury exposure, the location of skin lesions exposed to mercury and clinical manifestations. Urinary mercury determination is of great value in the diagnosis of mercury poisoning.
