Entamoeba histolytica (also called dysentery amoeba) (entamoeba ihstolytica Schaudinn, 1930), mainly parasitizes in the colon, causing amoebic dysentery or amoebic colitis. Dysentery amoeba is also the most important pathogenic species in the Rootpodia. Under certain conditions, it can extend to the liver, lung, brain, genitourinary system and other parts, forming ulcers and abscesses. Entamoeba histolytica has a global distribution and is more common in the tropics and subtropics.
