Brief introduction of bronchiectasis in the elderly

Bronchiectasis refers to the persistent expansion and deformation of bronchial lumen in lung. Chronic inflammation and obstruction of bronchus and its surrounding tissues lead to serious pathological damage of bronchial wall structure. Fibrous remodeling of tube wall and abnormal dilatation of bronchus are clinical symptoms such as chronic cough, massive pus and sputum or repeated hemoptysis. Late stage can be complicated with pulmonary fibrosis, emphysema, cor pulmonale, respiratory failure and so on.
