Clinical skin examination: After birth, the disease has skin pigmentation, which increases progressively with age, often brown or dark brown pigment spots, with island-like normal skin. Invading the whole body skin including palmoplantar, oral cavity, vulvar mucosa and conjunctiva can be involved.

Histopathology: Melanophagocytes increased in upper papilla layer and lower papilla layer of dermis. Cell infiltration is often not obvious, and sometimes there are a few lymphocytes and plasma cells around blood vessels. Melanin in the subepidermis occasionally increases slightly.
